1. Summary
RaccoonType is built to be local-first. Your typing happens in your browser using the Web Audio API, your results are stored in your browser by default, and an account is optional. When you sign in, your typing data syncs to our database so you can access it across devices. We do not sell typing telemetry to third parties.
2. What we collect
2.1 Local-only data (no account required)
- Typing test results (WPM, accuracy, consistency, raw WPM) — stored in your browser via IndexedDB / localStorage
- Selected sound pack, theme, and UI preferences
- Local Typing DNA analysis derived from your test history
2.2 Account data (sign-in required)
- Email address, username, display name, avatar URL (provided by Clerk authentication)
- Friends list, clan membership, and tournament registrations
- Leaderboard and ranked ELO history
- Seasonal XP and tier progress
- Achievements unlocked
2.3 Optional AI features
The AI Typing Coach is deterministic by default. The Typing DNA dashboard runs entirely in your browser. Only when you explicitly click “Generate custom drill” is a request sent to our LLM provider. We send only the Typing DNA category scores and the topic you request — never your raw keystrokes or full test transcripts.
3. What we do not collect
- We do not record your audio. Sound analysis happens locally via the Web Audio API and only the resulting numerical metrics are saved.
- We do not track your browsing on other sites.
- We do not sell your data to advertisers or data brokers.
4. Cookies and local storage
RaccoonType uses first-party cookies and local storage for authentication (Clerk) and to remember your preferences. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
5. Data sharing
We share data only with:
- Clerk — for authentication (your email, username, session info). See their privacy policy.
- Turso / libSQL — for cloud-synced typing data. Database is hosted in the EU / US regions.
- LLM provider (Groq) — only when you explicitly request a custom AI drill. We send the Typing DNA scores and the topic; we do not send raw keystroke data.
We do not share your data with any other third parties.
6. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data: request a copy of your account data
- Delete your data: delete your account and all associated data at any time from the Account page
- Export your data: download your typing history as JSON
- Opt out of AI features: never click “Generate custom drill” and we never call the LLM provider on your behalf
7. Data retention
Guest session data is kept in your browser until you clear site data. Account data is kept until you delete your account. Anonymized aggregate statistics (e.g., global daily average WPM) may be retained indefinitely.
8. Security
RaccoonType uses HTTPS, HSTS, and signed Clerk sessions. The database uses libSQL’s encrypted transport. We rate-limit AI endpoints to prevent abuse. We do not store passwords (Clerk handles all password storage and hashing).
9. Children
RaccoonType is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
